Which size for which age?
- 4×4 — from age 4 (preschool, kindergarten): digits 1 to 4, 6 grids per page. The best place to start learning the rule.
- 6×6 — from age 6 (grades 1–2): digits 1 to 6 and 2 × 3 boxes, 4 grids per page.
- 8×8 — from age 8 (grades 3–5): digits 1 to 8 and 2 × 4 boxes, 2 grids per page. The last step before the printable 9×9 sudoku.
How to explain the rule to kids
Each digit must appear only once in every row, every column and every box outlined with a thick line. The shaded cells are already filled in; the others are left to complete. To practise before going to paper, the same grids can be played online: Kids Sudoku (4×4), Junior Sudoku (6×6) and Junior+ Sudoku (8×8), with an animated hint.
